  • Admission Requirements for Architecture
    • Undergraduates
      • Candidates should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or their approved equivalent with five (5) credit passes, obtained in not more than two sittings, in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and two other subjects from the following: Technical Drawing, Fine-Arts, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Economics, Building Construction and Land Surveying. The Department usually gives preference to applicants with exposure to Technical Drawing.
      • Candidates must pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) with the prescribed cut off point in the following subjects: Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and any of Chemistry, Geography, Fine Art, Biology or Economics.
      • Candidates must also fulfil all other admission requirements as prescribed by the Senate of Covenant University.
    • Postgraduates
    • Master of Science (M.Sc) Professional Degree in Architecture
      • Admission is open to candidates with a good first degree in Architecture (B.Sc. Architecture) with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division from Covenant University, or any other recognized university. Candidates with third class degree will be deemed eligible if such candidates have obtained a PGD in Architecture from a recognized university. In addition to the above qualification requirements, candidates shall be required to participate in a postgraduate screening exercise to qualify for admission.

    • M. Phil./ Ph.D Architecture
      • Admission is open to applicants who possess a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Architecture or its equivalent with CGPA of 3.5 - 3.99 from Covenant University or any other recognized university. A candidate that has demonstrated sufficient academic promise may be considered for change of registration status from M.Phil. to Ph.D. after the successful completion of four semesters in the M.Phil. programme and having presented at least two seminars (including a proposal defense),  in demonstration of that competence, subject to approval  by the College/Board of Postgraduate Studies and Senate. Such a candidate must have obtained a minimum CGPA of 4.0 after the four semesters of coursework. Candidates that fail to meet the 4.0 minimum CGPA will be recommended for terminal M.Phil degree.

        In addition to the above qualification requirements, candidates shall be required to participate in a postgraduate screening exercise to qualify for admission.

    •  Ph.D Architecture by Coursework and Research
      • Ph.D is a minimum 8-semesters degree programme. A candidate with academic Master’s degree (M.Sc/M.Tech) in Architecture, with a cumulative Grade point Average (CGPA) of not less than 3.5 on 5 point scale or weighted average of 60% from a recognized university shall be eligible for admission into the Ph.D programme. In addition to the above qualification requirements, candidates shall be required to participate in a postgraduate screening exercise to qualify for admission.

        Ph.D candidates may present their research proposals in any of the following areas: Tropical Architecture; Housing and State Policy; Housing and Design; Social, Cultural and Demographic Change; Informal settlements and Community Initiative; Architectural Education; Architecture and Urbanism; Urban Regeneration; Gender Issues in Architecture; Architecture and Development; Architecture and Settlement Planning; Project Management; Sustainable Architecture; Application of Computer Systems in Architecture; Architecture and Climate Change; and other issues in the Built Environment.

        In addition, candidates should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or their approved equivalent with five (5) credit passes, obtained in not more than two sittings, in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and two other subjects from the following: Technical Drawing, Fine-Arts, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Economics, Building Construction and Land Surveying.

  • Graduation Requirements for Architecture
    • Undergraduates
      • To graduate from the 4-year Bachelor of Science degree programme in Architecture, students must have successfully completed a minimum of 173 credit units as shown in table below.

    • Postgraduates
      • Master of Science (M.Sc) Professional Degree in Architecture
        • A candidate will be required to complete satisfactory a minimum of 85 prescribed course units, submit and defend orally, a design thesis of original research work on a previously approved topic for internal and external examination. All courses must be passed with CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5-point scale, or a weighted average score not less than 50%.
      • M. Phil./Ph.D. Architecture
        • A candidate will be required to complete satisfactorily a minimum of 62 course units. A candidate, on successful completion of prescribed courses and defense of a research proposal may be recommended to proceed into the Ph. D programme. To be eligible for conversion into the Ph.D programme, the M.Phil candidate must have passed all the stipulated courses with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 and successfully carried out the M.Phil./Ph.D Proposal defence.
      • Ph.D Architecture by Coursework and Research
        • The performance of the candidate shall be a combination of performance at seminars as well as quality of written thesis as well as performance at oral examination. The thesis of original research work on previously approved topic shall be assessed at both internal and external examination and defense. The minimum credit unit for the award of a Ph.D in Architecture is 74.​​​​​​​

  • Architecture Course Structure

 

  • Duration of the Program
    • ​​​​​​​Master of Science (M.Sc) Professional Degree in Architecture
      • Full-time M.Sc Architecture degree programme shall last for a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of six (6) semesters.
    • ​​​​​​​ M.Phil/ Ph.D Architecture
      • Full-time M.Phil/Ph.D Architecture programme shall last for a minimum of eight (8) and a maximum of nine (9) semesters. This includes three (3) semesters of coursework and five (5) or six (6) semesters of research.

    • ​​​​​​​Ph.D Architecture by Coursework and Research

      • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Full-time Ph.D Architecture degree programme shall last for a minimum of six (6) Semesters and maximum of eight (8) semesters. This includes two (2) semester of coursework and five (5) to seven (7) maximum semesters of research.
